Applications for governor Rick Perry’s pilot school at leaguetown high school are due monday April 11.

“Our goal is to ensure that students have mastered a set of basic requirements and reduce the number of high school graduates who need remedial courses when they enroll in college.” Perry stated.  More than one million college freshman across America take remedial courses each year, and drop out before getting a degree.

“Because of our financial situation i planned to go to community college for the first two years of college and then move to a four-year university. It would be great to start community college at 16.” Holly Daro said [freshman].  The pilot school’s program allows students to graduate with two years early and enroll in a community college.

“I will not hesitate to apply,” Holly Daro said. “It is perfect for me I love school, but I could live without the social aspect of school. I never caught that school spirit bug.”

Many students love the entire high school experience: pep rallies, sporting events, proms, clubs, etc…

“Our faculty will push academically harder and faster than they have ever been pushed,” Marci Tucker said [principal of Early High School] “We are looking for motivated faculty and students.” Though the students are getting pushed they  graduate early and starting their career early too.

“I play football, basketball, and run track,” said Phil Howard [freshman] “I have no interest in that school.” Though they are looking for students who are highly motivated and won’t miss participating in athletics or clubs.

Students have three chances to pass the exits tests. “I will notify students April 25 on whether they were selected.” Tucker said.
